I just returned home from the local Best Buy store. They don't recycle batteries any more.
I actually prayed before I left home, asking God to help me recycle the batteries. A
post on Reddit said Best Buy stopped recycling batteries. But someone in the comments said they worked at Best Buy and their store still recycled them. I was driving near the store anyway (in Arkansas) so I thought I would drop by and see if I could get a bag of used AA batteries recycled. I've done that there before.
Today the battery bins at Best Buy are gone. I walked inside and at a desk was an employee standing near the entrance eating a bag of chips. I asked him if he was on break and he shook his head no. I asked him if they still recycled batteries and he said no. I asked if he knew where we could recycle batteries. He didn't know and asked two of his co-workers, who both acted like they had never thought about this concern. The three employees had no idea where I could recycle AA batteries. I mentioned that this is a problem in our country. Where are the used batteries supposed to go.... the landfill? I don't blame Best Buy for this problem, though. I thanked them and turned to leave.
The first employee told me to leave the bag of batteries on the desk and said, "We'll take care of it." I asked, "You're not going to throw them in the trash, are you?" He shook his head no, but did not say what actually they will do with the batteries. I left the batteries, hoping they will be processed responsibly. I thanked him and left.
Then I remembered I had prayed to God asking for his help. Perhaps God softened the man's heart and gave the employee the idea to take the batteries. Then I prayed for the employees.
Do any of you have any ideas about recycling batteries?
