Two days ago, my young adult son adopted a semi-feral cat from the shelter.
This tuxedo cat came to my son's house, but he is very shy after living at the shelter for a few years without being adopted until now. My son chose to give him a chance to live at his house, as the only pet of the house.
In the past two days, he was never heard meowing, ate maybe one time, and used the litter box once. Here is Gibb, a five-year-old, looking pathetic in the corner.
Today, when my son opened the front door to check the mail, Gibb escaped and ran down the street!
I went to his house and helped him look for the cat. We walked up and down the streets and talked to neighbors. We saw other cats, but no sign of Gibb. One neighbor suggested we look in the alley behind the house.
In the alley, behind a neighbor's house, we saw what looked like a cat sleeping in a sunny spot.
My son spoke to it, and then touched it, thinking it might wake up. But it was lifeless. And it was a tuxedo cat like Gibb. Was it him?
Upon closer inspection, we noticed differences. This cat had a pink nose while Gibb had a black nose. This cat had more white on his face and more white on his legs. It was not Gibb. It was somewhat of a relief, but still sad. Gibb still has hope, but we did not find him.
How did this cat die? We do not know. I am sorry to see any dead animal, especially pets that are loved. I rarely see a dead cat, especially behind someone's house off an alley. And it was a tuxedo cat, like Gibb. What are the chances we would see this today? It seems like a strange "coincidence" (but I don't believe in those).
We are still hoping Gibb will come back to the house. My son said he would put food and water on the porch. Now it's night and getting cold.
I have been praying, asking for the Lord's help. I ask the Lord to keep Gibb safe and bring him back to my son's house. I also pray the owners of the dead cat would find the body and have closure, and receive God's comfort.
God is able to do much more than we ask or think, so I trust that whatever God does for Gibb and my son, it will be a good conclusion. I share this unfinished story here, and hope to add an update when God answers this prayer.
