During the days of the prophet Samuel, people brought their sacrifices to the priest to offer to God. While God allowed the priests to keep a portion of the sacrifice, Eli's sons, Hophni and Phinehas, abused their authority by taking more than their fair share of the meat using
flesh hooks. Their disregard for God's rules led to both of them being slain in battle on the same day.
Likewise, many years later when it was time for Jesus to be offered up as a sacrifice for us all, the Romans scourged Jesus, tearing his flesh while Jewish religious leaders demanded that the Romans crucify him.
In different times and generations, religious leaders have shown contempt for the sacrifices of God. Those that disregard God's sacrifice shall die in their sins, while those of us who show respect for God's sacrifice shall receive eternal life.
