Russia pushed the ISS higher up, farther away from Earth

According to Roscosmos: Translated from Russian to English:

The orbit of the ISS has been corrected before the arrival of the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft."

At the "working" altitude (about 420 km above the surface of our planet), the influence of the Earth's atmosphere is still quite noticeable — the station is gradually descending.

Therefore, the ISS needs to be regularly maintained at the designated orbit through correction maneuvers.

Today at 12:52 Moscow time, the engines of the Progress MS-30 cargo spacecraft were activated; they operated for 1,035.5 seconds, providing an impulse of 2.06 m/s.

As a result, the average altitude of the station's orbit increased by 3.6 km, reaching 419 km above the Earth's surface.
