Americans are not free to travel to North Korea
.... because the US government has imposed a travel ban, which has been in place since Donald Trump took office in his first term in 2017.
The travel ban is being renewed for another year.
A couple years ago, an American soldier ran across the border into North Korea. It appeared that he did not want to return to the states. He was not harmed and was returned safely by the North Koreans. The American soldier faced more trouble from his own military than from the North Koreans.

How could we ever have peace with North Korea if we do not allow our people to visit each other and make a bond of friendship? It's like that time of COVID, when we were told to keep six feet apart and avoid all human contact. It made people fear each other and feel isolated. It is not good for peace to look at everyone as if they were an enemy.

He has been declared AWOL from the Army, which can mean punishment military jail, forfeiture of pay or a dishonourable discharge.
