Guam Residents Discuss Liklihood of Getting Nuked

This discussion came as it appeared their island was used to launch an attack against Iran. One particular comment stood out under an opinion piece in their local news.

Posted by OldGuamGeezer Jun 22, 2025 below an article titled, LETTER: Missile attack on Guam By Joaquin L. Taguacta

While I can appreciate the author’s intentions with this opinion piece, let’s be realistic here. What he is basically saying — which many of us already knew — is that in the event of a nuclear missile strike — or even non-nuclear strike — we here on Guam are for the most part dead meat.

As I have mentioned before, if you think your cinder block home is going to protect you from either a direct or even a near missile strike, you are deceiving yourself. If you have any doubts that this is so, take a good look at what Israel did to Gaza City. Doing so will surely cure your doubts.

The author speaks of basements. That leaves out most of us, particularly the many thousands of us who live in apartment buildings, particularly old ones.

Bomb shelters? Ha! That’s a joke. It wasn’t that long ago that, despite their presence on our island making us a direct target of China, North Korea and possibly Russia as well, the US military came right out and said that it is NOT their responsibility to build bomb shelters for the people of Guam. They in fact placed the onus on GovGuam and Guam Civil Defense. I’m not holding my breath. Are you?

Let’s face it. We are an island. Many of us are on the poor side and have no place to run to, assuming there is even time to escape.

And because we are an island, we depend heavily on imports. That means food and other necessities. In the event that we are targeted, shipping, communications and Internet will be the first to be cut off. Aside from the food items we already have in our homes, how long will supermarket retailers and mom and pop grocery stores be able to provide for us in the event of an ongoing months-long attack?

Regarding power and water, we all are already aware of how fragile GPA and GWA plants and distribution systems are. A few well-placed strikes, and they are out of commission.

Yes, we on Guam are resilient when it comes to typhoon strikes. No doubt about it. But missile strikes? That is an entirely different ballgame from which one does not easily recover, particularly if they are nuclear in nature.

I say to our enemies, if you are going to strike our island with a nuclear warhead, please target my home first instead of AAFB. For me it would be sudden death, sudden glory, because I believe in Jesus. I prefer that to trying to live through the longterm effects of a nuclear blast.

I pray the people of Guam would repent and receive the Lord's mercy.

Update: This same news source from Guam is where I saw an apparent link between their island and the attack against Iran:

Multiple American Air Force B-2 stealth bombers were dispatched overnight to Guam from Missouri, hours before the United States hit three nuclear sites in Iran

But now I am seeing conflicting reports, obscuring the actual role of Guam in this attack.
