It is pointless to worry about extending our life

Who has the power to determine the dates shown on his tombstone?

Who had the power to choose the day we were born? We have no control over our birthday, do we? Likewise, who has the power to choose the day his body dies?

Matthew 6:27 NASB | And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?

Read this verse in the King James Version if you like, but see the original Greek used for "stature" G2244 has the first meaning of "age", as in Hebrews....

Hebrews 11:11 KJV | Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age (G2244) because she judged him faithful who had promised.

The Greek word could be used for age or stature. I believe the NASB is a good version of this verse, where Jesus admonishes us to not worry about anything, including trying to extend the lifespan of our physical body, because that is not up for us to decide.

Our choices have consequences and affect our health and how we feel, but do our choices really add a single hour to our lifespan? We could pray to the God who has that power. And then wait on the Lord. While we wait, live according to the teachings of Jesus. And worry about nothing, because worry produces no good fruit.
